Fatima Hamdani
Communications Assistant
Fatima Hamdani is a multidisciplinary researcher and designer whose work bridges climate resilience, urban equity, and social justice. She is currently pursuing a Master of Design Studies in Ecologies at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where her research explores the socio-cultural and historical dynamics of urban spaces, focusing on Karachi’s coastal communities and their connections within the Indian Ocean region. During summer 2024, Fatima received the GSD’s Community Service Fellowship to work on coastal resilience with the City of Boston’s Department of Environment.
Previously, she worked in Pakistan on projects spanning financial inclusion for small businesses, digital innovation, and urban design research. She has also conducted research on agricultural policies, emphasizing climate vulnerability and gender justice. Her commitment to participatory planning, advocacy, and sustainable design informs her goal to empower marginalized communities globally through culturally and contextually relevant interventions.
Fatima completed her undergraduate studies in Social Development and Policy at Habib University in Karachi, Pakistan.
